It was a very special night for Randy Thelen, who was inducted in the Lakeland Builders Association’s Hall of Fame at its annual Holiday Party and Officer Installation Ceremony on December 11, 2015. This award was a surprise to Randy Thelen, who graciously accepted the award from Susan Keel, the 2016 President of LBA and from his peers that evening.

Lakeland Builders Association owes its existence to a core group of area builders, including Randy Thelen who started Lakeland Builders Association in 1979 with $2,000 borrowed from the South Central Wisconsin Builders Association. The founders of LBA knew that vast educational and support opportunities available as members of the National Association of Home Builder would encourage and promote continuous improvement of the industry and the individual members. They looked forward to working with individuals and companies in the new association that would be held to high ethics, education and training standard as part of their affiliation. This type of dynamic organization benefits the public as well; creating a source of trusted and reputable contractors to choose from all facets of the building industry.

As a LBA founding member, Thelen Total Construction holds the distinction of being the company with the most years of membership in the association . Over the 36 years, Randy Thelen was responsible for bringing in more members to LBA than any other member.

Randy has served as President of Lakeland Builders Association three times, and has served on the LBA Board of Directors three times. He also served as Wisconsin Builders Association Southern Area Vice President, as has served as Past National Director of the National Association of Home Builders.

Thelen Total Construction has participated in the LBA Parade of Homes 25 times over the last 26 years; showcasing 43 distinctive homes, and is an exhibitor each year at the annual LBA Home Improvement Expo.

“We find membership in Lakeland Builders Association invaluable to our company,” stated Randy. Over the years, I’ve stepped down from a leadership role, because other members have much to contribute, and their involvement in the association would prove to be invaluable to them as well. For instance, Melody Fehling our office manager at Thelen Total Construction, has been involved with the LBA over the last dozen years, serving on several committees. This year she’ll chair the Parade of Homes and serve on the LBA Board of Directors.”

Lakeland Builders Association is a not-for-profit association serving the building industry and represents more than 150 members.  Members are individuals from companies involved in the construction, development, remodeling and servicing of single and multifamily homes in Walworth County and the surrounding area.

We are building a specially adapted home for Marine Cpl. Jeremy Stengel in Mukwonago, WI. Cpl. Stengel was severely injured in a bombing in January 2007 while serving in Iraq. His injuries resulted in the amputation of his left leg and left his right leg with nerve and muscle damage. He is still undergoing treatment at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. You can read his biography by clicking HERE. as well as learn more about our organization. I have also attached the “postcard” mailings we have done in your area. Since our inception in 2004 we are nearing our 100th home built throughout the country and currently have over 40 homes to be built in 2011.   Cpl. Stengel’s will be the 3rd home we build in Wisconsin for our Veterans.

Homes For Our Troops is a non-profit non-partisan organization who builds specially adapted homes across the country for severely injured veterans returning from Iraq & Afghanistan at NO COST to the veteran.   We are proud to say that our Organization has received the highest score of 4 stars from Charity Navigator and “A” rating from American Institute of Philanthropy. This is due to our very low administrative and fundraising cost of only 8%; that is 92% of every donation goes directly into building a home for our Vets.

The home is a one story Ranch style on a slab measuring 2,600s.f. and 3,700s.f. including garage and porches. We are scheduled to start construction (Build Brigade) the weekend of February 18-20. We are in need of skilled Framers and Roofers.

As noted above, the “Build Brigade” weekend is scheduled to take place on February 18….this is where the entire structure of the house is completed, from framing to roofing to siding, windows and doors. It is quite an event, much like the old days of “barn raising”. Several hundred people/professionals take part in this throughout the weekend. During the “Build Brigade” we will take the house from a foundation in the ground to a completely weather tight shell in only 3 days. We are currently in need of all building materials as well as good experienced builders; from framing to roofing to shingles to siding to window and door installation.    There will be a few hundred volunteers on site throughout the weekend as well as news crews and fellow local builders, we provide breakfast/lunch, and it is quite an extraordinary and profound experience to be a part of.

Anyone who is interested may call me for more information or they can fill out the attached “Volunteer Commitment” form and return to my attention. At this time we are in need of Framers and Roofers.

This is truly an opportunity to get involved in a community wide effort in giving back to a soldier who gave more than anyone should have to bear. Your contribution is greatly appreciated by everyone, especially our Veterans. We have been able to provide homes for our Veterans only because of generous people and organizations such as yours.

Thank you for your support and consideration.   I look forward to hearing from you.
